Introduction


Pisidium ventricosum is a relatively uncommon but generally distributed species, ranging across most of Canada with distributional gaps in the extreme east, west and north of the country. It is found in the northern tier of US states with a few disjunct occurrences farther south (Mackie, 2007).

This species lives in perennial water lakes, ponds, rivers and streams of all sizes. Aquatic vegetation and muddy bottoms characterize typical habitats (Clarke, 1981).
